Bin Weevils Cheat Site Anti Bullying Month: Social Media Danger!Hello, Bin Weevils. It's beano150 here with the first of the 2016 series of Anti Bullying Month posts.
The dangersSocial media has many advantages, but have you ever thought of the disadvantages?
Impersonation! - People can act as if they're someone that they aren't really easily on social media, and get away with it. People fall for these tricks and unfortunate things happen. So remember, never arrange to meet up with someone online unless you know it's really them. Getting your parent or guardian's consent for such arrangements would be ideal, to be extra safe. Offensive comments! - "Ugly, fat, two faced know it all" and other inappropriate terms (including much worse ones) can be sent to someone within a few seconds. Words CAN hurt and you should think twice before sending such messages to someone. Sending messages calling people autistic or making fun of illnesses and/or disabilities is beyond extreme and you should do something about it (like tell a parent, guardian or teacher) if someone ever does this to you. Personal information! - NEVER, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES send random people your personal information. You never know what they will do with it, they could release it to the entire world online or give it to people. Even if they say "Please, I promise I'll keep it between just us" make sure you send a big 'NOPE'. Blocking people asking for personal information would be ideal as well as reporting those users to the website it was asked for on, if the personal information was requested online. Personal information you should never release to anyone apart from you, your family and potentially your friends includes: personal/private email addresses, your phone number, home address, pictures of yourself (especially in school uniform or clothing that you can be identified as part of a specific group or community), your bank card information etc. Just remember to say 'NO' if anyone ever asks you for such information! Abuse! - Abusing people is cruel or violent treatment to a person or animal, and can be done online as well as in real life. For example, hitting and punching people would count as abuse. You may experience cyberbullying, grooming, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or emotional abuse online so be aware. Remember that block and report tools are provided for a reason and you don't have to unblock someone or cancel their report if someone tells you to. Bullying can happen online and in real life! Tell a parent, guardian, teacher, adult or older sibling you can trust if you are being bullied. Do not get involved with bullying, you will likely find yourself in serious consequences if you do. That's the end of our tips for this post, here is another helpful website: Being bullied? Need to talk? Think you can handle being bullied? Think you can bottle it in without telling anyone?
